Zagori is located entirely within
the Northern Pindos National Park.
To the east and west lie the National Forests
of Valia Calda and Vikos-Aoos, while in the area in between
or in areas that overlap with the former,
there are several European protected areas
within the Natura 2000 network.

Since September 2023, Zagori has been inscribed
as a Cultural Landscape on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It also occupies a large part of the
UNESCO Vikos-Aoos Global Geopark, as well.
Three of its villages have also
been designated by the Greek government
as Sites of Exceptional Natural Beauty:
Mikro & Megalo Papingo, Dilofo, and Monodendri

Some of the most notable natural attractions in the area are:
the Vikos Gorge,
the Aoos Gorge,
the Voidomatis River,
Lake Drakolimni or Dragon Lake.
